Council ready to work with new govt: Official

THE Papua New Guinea-European Union Business Council is ready to work with the Government.
Council president Michael Sullivan said a change government brought new challenges.
“It is important to recognise that the Governments sets the scene for business,” he said.
“Business is very in tune to politics and the right move from government gives business confidence and allows them to move forward.
“The wrong move from government has the reverse effect and makes business withdraw and creates a lack of confidence.”
Sullivan said there had been a change in business levels in PNG since the beginning of the year.
“The year started well and I think there was definitely an upturn in business levels. The levels of orders and enquiries from overseas all increased compared to last year,” he said.
“The political developments of April and May have certainly had a dampening effect on the PNG economy.
“We hope that the new government will take steps, as soon as possible, to address that and restore the confidence that was clearly being reflected in the PNG economy earlier in the year.”
