Simon: Youths need to see opportunities in agricultural

MINISTER for Agriculture and Livestock John Simon is concerned young people no longer consider agricultural activities as a worthwhile pursuit.
He said Papua New Guineans were hardworking people, the majority of whom came from agricultural backgrounds and today’s youth needed to be encouraged to see opportunities in the agricultural sector.
Simon said agriculture in PNG would decline if people, especially the young generation, continued to disregard the land and focus on new technologies and opportunities in the urban setting.
“When you give your child a grass knife, they will back off but as soon you give them mobile phone they will hug and kiss you,” he said of current attitudes.
