LOCAL level government (LLG) officials and other government authorities in Wau town, Bulolo in Morobe need to work closely with police to maintain law and order, Morobe police commander Supt Jacob Singura says.
He said any differences that they had among themselves had to be resolved quickly so that partnerships in crime prevention with police and other law enforcement agencies would not be hindered.
Supt Singura said this after councillors from Wau Rural LLG locked the doors to the LLG office building over an internal issue the councillors had a week ago.
Supt Singura these LLG officials needed to realise that they had a crucial role to play in their communities and any disagreements or issues needed to be resolved in order for them to get on with the work of delivering services to the LLG.
Meanwhile, Wau police station commander Snr Insp Leo Kaikas said LLG leaders in Wau Rural had to get their priorities right to work closely with police who were staging a two-month operation.
Snr Insp Kaikas said people were selling liquor without licences in Wau.
“Any member of the community in Wau seeing these unlicensed dealers, please report them to police immediately,” he said.
