THE primary counting for the Menyamya by-election in Morobe began on Tuesday and is being conducted at respective local level government (LLG) stations as polling winds down.
Returning officer Nande Awape said only the quality checks and the exclusions would be conducted at Menyamya office.
Awape said there were four counting venues – Kome, Wapi, Nanema-Kareba and Kapao LLGs – and only ballot papers for quality checks before elimination would be transported to Menyamya Station.
He said Kome LLG started their counting yesterday as they were ready after their assistant returning officer conducted a briefing with the officials earlier on Tuesday while Wapi LLG will start today after the briefing.
He said for Nanema-Kareba and Kapao, the three polling sites had polled on Tuesday due to the late arrival of polling teams.
Their extraction was also delayed and that delayed the counting which would start tomorrow.
Awape said counting would begin after the extraction of teams at Komakwata and Kopakili (Kapao) and Yapato (Nanema-Kareba) are completed.
He said there were 138 polling teams and all had done well.
