EAST Sepik has seen a peaceful election so far and is looking forward to end it well, says the provincial police commander Peter Philip.
Philip told The National from Wewak that counting was progressing well as security personnel worked tirelessly around the clock to make sure the election ended peacefully.
He said there were about 200 security officers deployed but they have managed well so far and were now heading towards the final process of the election.
He said  the officers have done a good job and will continue to do the same until the end of counting.
“I think my boys have done a tremendous job so far and I would like to thank them for their cooperation and for making sure this election is violence-free,” Philip said.
“Even though manpower has been a major concern they came out strong and handled the security of the election in the province well so far.”
He thanked the people of East Sepik for showing maturity all through the election processes.
“I think the people of East Sepik have cooperated well and that is why in the province has seen a free and fair election all through, which was a good sign,” he said.
“With the election nearing its completion the people of East Sepik have acted and showed some maturity.
“This has made me and my security forces happy.”
Philip said counting in Ambunti-Dreikikir, Angoram, Maprik, Wosera-Gawi and Yangoru-Saussia and Wewak electorates was progressing well with security under control.
