Country needs transparent election

Letters

THE Papua New Guinea Electoral Commission has carried out a failed, unfair and an unsafe election in the country.
Electoral objectives were not achieved at the end of the day.
The objective of the Electoral Commission is to provide a conducive environment for free, fair and credible elections.
Security personnel failed to carry out their duty.
About 90 per cent of aspiring candidates and reigning incumbents contesting the General Election 2022 were caught rigging the electoral process.
Some of them were caught in possession of unlicensed firearm, hijacked ballot boxes and huge sums of money.
Our security personnel assigned to conduct fair election were all compromised.
That brought forward many objections and developed an atmosphere of hatred.
Deliberately, the persistent course of illegal practices has mostly instigated most of the disorders around the country.
Apparently, an unfavourable result was discovered at all borders of the communities.
Number of private assets were destroyed, human lives were taken, and an ethnic feud were intense at every corners of the polling areas.
The Electoral Commission failed all its duties.
Monetary budget allocation for all services to run the affairs of the election were not sufficient and transparent.
Budget shortage has caused deferral of NCD polling.
Together with unforeseen announcement of RO for Port Moresby North-East resigning in the early morning before the polling commenced on Friday, a laughable drama but a broad suspicious raised eyebrow.
It disrupted the polling and was forced to postpone.
Throughout the country the mass reports and news received were so bad.
The political culture practiced at the election event by candidates, supporters, and an election official were way beyond human behaviour.
Honest and transparent initiatives were not seriously taken within the election’s circles.
The desired goals considered through the commission were not even necessarily achieved.
All causes have brought bad reputation to the Electoral Commission and country as a whole.
The election materials and government assets brought in to run this national event did not workout in an appropriate manner.
Prior to the event, there were misguided policy, blueprint and other regulations to help them.
Election in PNG seems to be less of an electoral process and more of a joke.
Steps and process should be taken to hold transparent election.
Citizens, stakeholders, and other non government institutions are raising questions about electoral process.
