THE Flexible open and distance education (Fode) curriculum writers in Port Moresby had a three-day workshop last week on online content development training.
National Fode principal Anthony Rayappan told The National that Fode was now embarking on rolling out online courses this year.
“We are training our curriculum writers (teachers) to develop and design content for online courses,” Rayappan said.
“This will be facilitated by the commonwealth of learning experts from other countries.
“We have development partners in New Zealand, South Africa and Canada.
“These are the expert educationists in the open learning environment and they are helping Fode to create this online platform.”
He said students could enrol and study online.
“We are rolling out grade 11 and 12 students now,” Rayappan said.
“They have the opportunity to study online.
“That’s the opportunity that we are providing this year.”
He said the initiative was a combined partnership with commonwealth of learning and Fode.
“This is the first of its kind for the department,” he said.
“Fode is moving one step ahead by rolling out online courses.
“The department and the schools never had an opportunity or an avenue that students could study at home using online course.”
Rayappan said Fode was embarking on the initiative in order for more students to benefit, especially those in remote areas.
