Court officials must be vigilant

Letters

I AM sure the laws of our country were made to guide and protect the conducts of its citizens, including the foreigners residing here for business causes.
However, court officers like magistrates are tasked to ensure those who violate these laws are brought to justice without fear and favour and regardless of their social standings.
Instead, from what I can see, some magistrates are doing the exact opposite.
For instance, the Popondetta district court magistrate dismissed the case of foreigners attached to a logging company operating in the province without work permits and visas as stated by the minister for Immigration in last Thursday’s Parliament session.
Another is the case of a doctor who allegedly murdered his wife which was dismissed by the
Mt Hagen Committal Court which drew the attention of many.
If court officers we are supposed to trust are able to prosecute offenders honestly, who will defend and uphold the laws of the country?
