A MAN who allegedly committed armed robbery and an attempted armed robbery recently in Lae was remanded in custody at Buimo yesterday by a Lae committal court.
Police told the court that Trevor Karl, 26, from Yalu village, Huon Gulf in Morobe, was a suspect in an armed robbery at Golden Valley Enterprise on Aug 10 and a suspect in an attempted armed robbery at Downtown on March 25.
He was charged with stealing Presiding Magistrate Lorna Sani, when reading out the charge to Karl, told him that he could do a proper application for the court to consider his bail.
“In the meantime, you will be remanded in custody at Buimo Prison while police complete your files into the charge of stealing,” the magistrate said.
Magistrate Sani fixed June 8 for a mention.
Police alleged that Karl conspired with his accomplices and they stole a Toyota Land Cruiser valued at K120,000, the property of one Joshua Iamo in Lae, on Jan 15.
The court heard that Karl and his accomplices acted as gold buyers and called the owner of the vehicle, who upon confirming the validity of one of Karl’s accomplices through his driver’s licence, released the vehicle to them.
Under the pretext of hiring the vehicle for two-days, Karl and his accomplices allegedly took the vehicle to Kundiawa in Chimbu and sold the vehicle there and returned to Lae.
The police report said that the stolen vehicle was yet to be recovered.
Meanwhile, Karl’s other charges are still pending in court.
