Covid-19 measures need to be enforced

Letters

I AM disappointed with the Pandemic Controller not engaging law enforcing officers on the main bus stops in the city.
Every morning when I get onto the bus to go to work with my face mask on, most passengers do not have theirs on.
I also noticed that the bus crews are not too concerned about passengers wearing face masks but are only interested in collecting fares.
This is exactly what’s happening in all the city’s routes.
Since Covid-19 is here to stay and there is already community transmission, people in city are moving from point A to point B, some even carrying the Covid-19 virus.
How can the Government intervene to prevent the spread of Covid-19?
Pay allowances for police officers and Correctional Service officers and let them monitor all the main bus stops.
This is to ensure that people comply with the new normal Covid-19 measures.
Only then, people will fear the presence of the officers and start wearing face masks.
In PNG, we are known for having attitude problems so people will not use their head to do the right thing.
They will only do the right thing if they notice law enforcement officers. It’s a typical PNG attitude, we hear and simply ignore.
If nothing is done and people are continuously getting into the buses without face masks on, I bet three quarters of the Port Moresby population will have been infected with Covid-19 by the end of the year.

Care for yourself first and foremost. If the public don’t wanna adhere to the CV19 protocols, who cares?
Stop wasting your time on people who don’t appreciate what the Govt is trying to do.
Get on with your life…..and stop complaining…..
