COVID-19 vaccination in the country will be conducted on a voluntary basis, says Minister for Health and HIV/AIDS Jelta Wong.
The Government is expecting the first supply of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine next month.
The vaccine was recommended by the PNG medical and scientific advisory committee, developed through the Covid-19 Vaccine Global Access (Covax) facility and approved by the World Health Organisation.
“Our priority will be to protect our frontline health workers, care-providers and people with co-morbidities.
“We will also prioritise police, hotel workers, airline workers, airport and seaport workers.”
Wong said the country’s greatest weapon against the pandemic was to have an ongoing public health education and awareness on the public health safety protocols.
They include:

  • AVOID moving around too much to stop community exposure;
  • WEARING of face masks especially in public places;
  • AVOID crowded places;
  • MAINTAIN social distancing of 1.5m-2m;
  • USE regular hand washing using soap and hand sanitising;
  • COUGHING into your elbows; and,
  • IF you feel unwell, self-isolate and call toll-free number 1 800 200.

  • AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine has been suspended in most Europeans countries due bad side effects ( blood clots). Will there be side effects on black people????

  • Don’t allow the Astra Zeneca vacvibe to be given to people. Most European countries have stopped Astra Zeneca Vaccination temporarily, because of the death of people who had taken the vaccine and blood clots developing in people after being vaccinated. If you want to stay safe from Vovid, then stay in your house, go back to your village, avoid large gatherings at markets and busstops, etc. The government should be prudent at such a moment and wait for safer vaccines…. no need to rush and put the lives of our people at risk.
