CPL opens new duty free shops at airport

 THE City Pharmacy Group Ltd (CPL) has opened three new shops at the newly-refurbished Jackson International Airport in Port Moresby.

CPL and joint venture partner, Prouds invested K5 million in the new shops to service needs of passengers. 

CPL group chief executive officer Ravi Singh said the stores were two Prouds duty free stores in the departure and arrival areas and one IGA Airport Express. 

“CPL, along with its JV partner Prouds, will be operating the departures and arrivals duty free stores and will be solely operating IGA Express store servicing the needs of travelling passengers.

“Prouds Duty Free stores bring in international brands and work class standards to travel retail in PNG,” Singh said. 

He said the shopping experience at Jackson’s airport would now be comparable to any major international destination. 

“Through its joint venture partners, CPL will be delivering greater value to Papua New Guineans and foreigners travelling in and out of Port Moresby.

Singh added that Prouds duty free stores would be selling all designer brands of perfumes, a 

range of alcoholic drinks, confectionery, watches, electronic gadgets, international branded jewellery, branded bags, range of tobacco products and gift merchandise representing Papua New Guinean culture.

He said pricing was taken into consideration to ensure it was competitive to all destination’s duty 

free stores especially Brisbane duty free.

Singh said IGA Airport Express store would service general needs of travelling passengers and would carry drinks, take away snacks, general over the counter medicines, magazines, confectionery,, adaptors, chargers and other travel accessories.

He added that the stores would provide full time employment to more than 70 PNG citizens.
