“Api was an exceptional cricketer during his time and he had the honour of making the national cricket team on several occasions during which he performed to his best.
“His leadership in the game saw him captain the national team in 1982, 1986 and 1994 where he led Papua New Guinea in several tours in Europe and Africa.
“Following the end of his career in cricket, Api did not shy away from the game, he was involved in our local competitions and was a selector for the national men’s team for a few years.
“He had the honour of coaching the national team, which is a huge achievement in the sport.
“PNG is what it is today, thanks to the efforts of players like Api, who have served the sport with the highest distinction.”
