CAPTAIN Mike Hauser recorded 75 runs off 47 balls to help Rest of the World (Row) record their biggest total (191-5) and dismantle rookies Sirovai (89) in the Lae Cricket Association T20 competition on Sunday.
Row batted first and opener Paul Nigani (29 off 19) and opening partner Suresh Gunerathne got off to a great start.
But after Gunarathne lost his wicket, Hauser took matters into his own hands and stayed at the crease until the end of Row’s innings.
He was supported by Sudesh Waduge (23 off 13) and wicketkeeper Budhika Wijersinghe (19 off 17 balls). Tupou Amini (5) and Alan Ila (1) recorded single figures for Row.
Row’s batting efforts amassed 191-5 with Nanadai Loi (2/16), Kila Tau (2/37) and Raymond Tau (1/39) taking wickets for Sirovai.
Sirovai came out with guns blazing with openers Bruce Uru (24 off 38) and Raymond Nanari (20 off 14) showing why they should not be taken lightly.
Kila Tau (19 off 22) and Egi Trudi (12 off 12) kept Sirovai in the hunt, finding the boundary to kick-start their run chase.
But successive wickets saw Sirovai fade away in the end and they were all out for 89 runs in 19.4 overs.
A very gallant effort by Sirovai despite the score and the fielding and returns to the keeper all over the field sounding a warning to all other PCS LCA clubs not to take the “newbies” lightly as obviously there is experience and skill in the side but also a lot of youth and plenty of fight.
