THE Papua New Guinea Football Association (PNGFA) is conducting a coaching course for National Soccer League coaches ahead of next Saturday’s season kick-off.
PNGFA coaching director Harrison Kamake said they ran a similar course for 15 participants from the Northern Conference last week.
He said the coaching course was basically to teach coaches on their role and what was expected of them as the semi-professional level.
It is a four-day certificate course which ends tomorrow.
Assisting Kamake to facilitate the coaching course, Margaret Aka said the coaches represented Central Dabaris, Hekari United, Tavur, Gulf Komara, Star Mountain and Southern Development Team.
She encouraged the coaches to practise what they had learned.
“Coaching like everything has processes,” Aka said.
“Everything starts from the basics before the intermediate and senior levels.
“I encourage all coaches to follow due process to attain their certificates as qualified coaches.”
Under the leadership of PNGFA president John Kapi Natto, the technical department has been running basic refereeing and coaching courses for member associations across the country.
“As part of the Kapi Natto’s vision, football must reach the grassroots level and spread throughout the country,” PNGFA technical director Paul Isorua said.
“This is what the technical department has been doing.”
He said they had already conducted similar courses for Chimbu, Lae, Madang, New Britain Palm Oil Limited and Bougainville. They will continue in the National Capital District and Port Moresby Soccer Association before going to Mendi, Southern Highlands.
