CRICKET Papua New Guinea (CPNG) says it will finalise its back-to-sport Covid-19 protocol with proposed policies to resume its activities next week.
CPNG general manager Lee McDowell told The National yesterday that talks with the PNG Sports Foundation (PNGSF) and relevant authorities had seen the development of policies and guidelines which would be used by the governing body.
“This policy will be in place this week and we expect to resume our programmes the following week,” he said.
“Our affiliates will start as soon as they are in a position to operate under this policy which should be not far behind CPNG.
“Our team are developing our own return-to-sport protocol for our affiliates and CPNG programmes to follow in line with the guidelines from the Government and health authorities.
“We have been working closely with PNGSF since the inception of the sports recess and state of emergency (SOE) protocols.
“We take safety seriously and will ensure every cricket programme is aware and follows these protocols around sanitation, hygiene and social distancing.”
The national teams continue their training in small groups as per the SOE protocols with permission from PNGSF.
Meanwhile, McDowell said CPNG was yet to receive advice on whether this year’s T20 World Cup, of which the Barramundis are a part, would go ahead.
He said the Lewas’ 50-over World Cup qualifier in Sri Lanka next month had been deferred with a new date yet to be confirmed.
