Create new ministry

Letters

I ATTENDED an international conference in Nigata, Japan, in 1995 during my political term as Bulolo MP representing Papua New Guinea government delegations on the topic of population, employment and youth and I want to share here few of my personal thoughts.
Most countries around the world are smart by creating separate ministries for population, employment and youths knowing that if these three didn’t go together, their future generation would be time bombs.
Here in PNG, no government is serious about population growth and employment and it is sad to see so.
Thousands of children are attending schools around the country but the questions is, will they be able to secure decent jobs after leaving school?
The Government should create a ministry for population, youth and employment.
We should begin to find ways now to control our country’s population, plan for our youth and their employment. Many youths are looking for jobs but it is not easy.
The difficulty to get jobs sometimes causes them to turn to illegal activities.
Our government policies should embark on downstream processing of our resources to create employment opportunities.
Our students should stop unnecessary sexual activities that result in unplanned pregnancies.
It is good to see the Government putting funds into Bank South Pacific to be borrowed by those that participate in small and medium enterprises.
Address the increasing population growth before it fires back at us.
