Don’t question O’Neill’s work

Letters

I WRITE in response to the letter by Namei Nau-me saying he does not have the confidence in former prime minister Peter O’Neill’s leadership.
O’Neill is a respected leader and a father of infrastructure in the country.
You probably have not travelled around the country so you cannot make fair judgments.
This man (O’Neill) has done more than any prime minister in PNG.
In Lae, the pothole name tag no longer exists, the Highlands Highway rehabilitation programme, the Girua airport upgrade and the Girua bridge in Northern, the Mount Hagen, Mendi, and Goroka airport upgrade and the list goes on. These much-needed infrastructures were built during O’Neil’s term therefore you can’t just blindly say you have no confidence in him.
Papua New Guinea needs leaders who can stand tall during trying times and I can confidently say O’Neill is the man that PNG needs the most.
PNG is yet to see real tangible developments from the current government.

  • The writer’s article is right….just because of one mistake, everyone judges him badly and didn’t look at all the good things he had done…No one is perfect…everyone make mistakes and learn from it…so bomai yal check yourself before you said bullshit…….so it’s very true that Peter O Neil had really changed PORT moresby to a city…as well as other developments in the country.

  • O’neill is a good leader too. We must not derail his reputation. It is true he built infrastructures in the country.
The only problem we facing is the debt accumulation we are paying back.
And another problem is the many middle men who does double dipping. These many middle men varies across all departments.
In short, it is a collective issue here. When one makes a simple wrong at the head, the body and the tail follows…

  • He borrowed too much and plunged the country into the current economic mess we are in.

Secondly, his regime put the corruption bar up to another level.
