Cricket agrees on four-week recess due to coronavirus

In light of the uncertainty around the coronavirus pandemic, Cricket Papua New Guinea (CPNG) and other federations will abide by a national sports recess of four weeks as suggested by PNG Sports Foundation (PNGSF) executive director Peter Tsiamalili in Port Moresby yesterday.
“This decision was not taken lightly,” CPNG said in a statement.
“But on advice from PNGSF and the Health Department, all federations agreed that this was the appropriate action.
“Maintaining the safety and welfare of all our sports participants, staff and the public was an absolute priority for the board and management of CPNG in agreeing to this recess.
“The measures of limiting social exposure along with promoting correct personal and workplace hygiene practices will hopefully reduce the risk to the community.
“CPNG will keep all stakeholders, partners, staff, athletes and concerned parties updated on decisions regarding the recess in the days and weeks ahead.
“We will continue to undertake the precautions and best practices recommended by public health experts and urge all CPNG-associated bodies to follow suit.”
