TUSBAB Stallions remain optimistic about their Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League playoff chances despite the departure of captain Nigel Malagian who joined defending champions Lae City in last week’s transfer window.
Tusbab patron Conrad Wadunah told The National that it was a big loss but he praised his development players for stepping up in their 1-1 draw with City in Lae on Saturday. Tusbab are fourth on the ladder.
“Our young players stood out on game day. Hans Kapai was called in to fill the void left behind by Nigel at right-back and he played well despite only making his maiden appearance,” he said.
“We had Manasseh Manasseh also at the back, and Jason Wadunah and Micheal Saun in midfield. We believe in all our players and they repaid our faith with a hard-earned draw.”
Wadunah said despite player transfers affecting their squad, the Madang side were remaining focused on developing and exposing young talents while providing an education for them.
“We focus on developing players and creating a new breed of intelligent footballers so while we play football, we would also like them to focus on their education,” he said.
“Most of our players are young.
“Our only senior players are Leehan Manasseh and Richie Apisa.”
Meanwhile, Wadunah has appealed to business houses to assist the club in their efforts to develop football in Madang.
