CRICKET Papua New Guinea (CPNG) staff, including those from the strength and conditioning department and high performance coaches, underwent a Covid-19 course run by the Australian Coaching Council.
The course ensures coaches take appropriate measures when conducting sports training sessions.
“As we see the easing of restrictions and a return to normalcy, it is important for individuals to return to community-based activities with confidence,” CPNG said in a statement yesterday.
The participants were Tom John, former Barramundis pair John Ovia and Mahuru Dai, CPNG talent identification manager Rodney Maha, strength and conditioning coach Meiling Choong, and Otto Wrakonei.
For Maha, the course has helped him put in place measures that will assist him in his coaching programmes as he deals with a lot of children and youths throughout PNG.
“CPNG already has in place protocols to cover programmes and competitions in relation to the Covid-19 safety measures which have been sent out to CPNG associations nationwide,” he said.
“The course adds to these protocols. With the history-making Barramundis (national men’s team) continuing their training along with the Lewas (women), it is imperative that our coaching staff are equipped with the highest possible standards, which are recognised internationally.”
This course has ensured the six coaches and officials to become well informed and properly equipped to conduct training sessions safely.
“They can be confident that they are following the proper guidelines to keep all participants safe from Covid-19,” CPNG said.
