CHILD Fund, Cricket Papua New Guinea (CPNG) and the International Cricket Council (ICC) have launched a programme to integrate cricket and life skills among youngsters.
The one-year programme, known as “Child Fund Cricket for Good”, will see the participations of youngsters between the ages of 10 and 25 across schools and communities in Central and the National Capital District.
According to ICC East Asia-Pacific development manager Jane Livesey, the programme focuses on getting participants to learn basic cricket and life skills like healthy relationships between men and women, and gender equality.
“We will be collecting data and information about the programme and assess its impact on the participants,” Livesey said.
Chief executive Greg Campbell said CPNG was proud to partner ICC and the Australian government in empowering youths in life skills using cricket as a tool.
“This programme is about empowering youths in PNG to have confidence to go out in the workforce, earn a living and become good citizens, and cricket is one of the stepping stones for that to happen,” Campbell said.
The programme is running a recruitment exercise for coaches and trainers who will go to villages and schools to implement the initiative.
