CRICKET Papua New Guinea (CPNG) on Friday launched its Cricket for Good programme at Taurama Bay outside Port Moresby following a successful trial of the initiative in schools and villages.
CPNG domestic cricket manager Lakani Oala said the programme was now incorporated into the governing body’s commitments to supporting and developing youths using cricket.
“The programme, which started in September last year, is aimed at helping young people learn new life skills and also change their way of thinking by using cricket as a tool.
“It’s first of its kind in Taurama.
“We’ve trialled it in other villagers like Porebada, Pari and Hanuabada. Due to the Covid-19, we postponed most of our activities for this programme.
“But we are glad to have it back.
“There are a lot of children here bowling and batting so we can already see a promising future for the sport.”
PNG Lewas skipper Kaia Arua said it was exciting to bring the programme to Taurama Bay.
