INDOOR cricket has signalled the resumption of the sport’s activities following the lifting of the nationwide Covid-19 state of emergency, according to an official.
Cricket Papua New Guinea (CPNG) domestic cricket manager Lakani Oala told The National that the national pandemic controller, through the PNG Sports Foundation (PNGSF), had cleared their operations.
“Nationwide, we’ve opened our competitions and the certificate of approval (from the PNGSF) has granted permission for all competitions to start,” he said.
“Port Moresby cricket resumed its indoor competition with the elimination finals over the weekend.
“This weekend, they’ll play their semifinals.
“There were strict Covid-19 protocols issued last weekend because we wanted to do the right thing which is in the best interest of our competitions and stakeholders.
“All our associations are eager to play and we’re expecting all the other competitions to start in the next few weeks.
“We’re expecting our Port Moresby cricket competition to start on July 25 or in the first week of next month.
“Competitions have started in Pari, Keapara and other areas outside Port Moresby.”
He said a circular on the resumption of competitions was issued to all CPNG associations.
It included a uniform protocol for the sport based on guidelines from PNGSF, CPNG and the International Cricket Council.
