THE Isuzu National Cup has been put on hold after the Government imposed a 14-day citywide lockdown in response to a spike in Covid-19 cases in Port Moresby.
Cricket Papua New Guinea (CPNG) competitions manager Lakani Oala told The National yesterday there would be no games for the 50-over tournament for the next two weeks.
“No games will be played until we receive instructions from the Amini Park venue management and the PNG Sports Foundation,” he said.
“The Isuzu National Cup will be definitely be affected by this so we’ve been advising all the teams and their players to refrain from training and gathering for now.
“The majority of our activities and competitions take place in the National Capital District.
“So since the announcement of the lockdown, we’ve been left with no choice but to follow the orders from the national pandemic controller.
“There’s nothing much we can do about it because these are orders from the Government and all we can do is comply with them and wait.”
The country’s premier 50-over tournament kicked off on Friday and was initially scheduled to run for three consecutive weekends.
Following the start of matches last weekend, CPNG enforced new measures under its back-to-sport protocols with temperature checks, hand-sanitising, data collection and tracing.
