THE Port Moresby Soccer Association has suspended its seven-a-side finals in accordance with the Government’s 14-day lockdown of the National Capital District (NCD) over a spike in Covid-19 cases in the city.
“Unfortunately, the Government has again put a stop to all sports in NCD because of the increase in Covid-19 cases,” association president Joseph Ealedona said in a statement yesterday.
“Therefore our sevens finals and condensed competition are again suspended.
“We are now under lockdown for two weeks.
“We will assess the situation and advise everyone after two weeks.
“Please look after yourselves and your family.
“Covid-19 is real.
“Our health safety is important.
“Hence, the lockdown.”
Prior to the lockdown announcement, the association was on course to finish its finals on Sunday (Aug 2) with matches resuming at Bisini Soccer Ground over the weekend.
Sunday’s matches for the women’s division saw Mariners beat PX Jets 3-1 in the plate semifinals while Seeadler edged Finance 1-0 in cup semifinals. Mungkas defeat Genesis 2-0 in the women’s cup semifinals while Mariners advanced to the cup semifinals with a 1-0 victory against Seeadler in the men’s division.
