A LOCAL leader from Siar, Madang, has expressed satisfaction with Youth Link cementing a partnership with police.
The initiative undertaken by Youth Link which is headed by Bryan Kramer will see more than 100 youths taking part in the programme.
Law and order chairman Lab Pileng said youths from the area were taking part in the community policing programme.
He said most people, especially from rural areas, who normally travelled into the township to do their shopping ended up as victims of opportunists.
“Pasin blo mipla pipol lo Madang e nogat lo bagarapim narapela (We people of Madang are peace-loving people),” he said.
Pileng said everyone in the community must stand together to fight crime.
He said such programmes must continue into the rural areas.
“Areas such as Matupi, where the RD Tuna cannery operates, is a hotspot for crime as well,” he said. Women were usually the targets for the hold-ups.
Addressing youths last week, Kramer advised the participants not to take the law into their hands.
He said no weapon of any sort was to be carried around as all they had to do was provide information to police officers.
“Each and every one of you will be closely monitored by police making sure that you are doing what you are supposed to do,” he said.
Allowances and lunch for the youths will be provided and taken care of by Youth Link.
Provincial police commander Anthony Wagambie Jnr said the service and help by youth Link was cost-free.
