A TEAM of engineers from South Korea headed by chairman Yoolim SuYeol of DM World, a renowned engineering firm, signed a memorandum of understanding with Madang Governor James Gau last Friday.
Lands departmental heads and respective presidents from district offices were present to witness the occasion.
DM World, which is reportedly one of the top five leading engineering firms in the world, will undertake several construction projects in Madang town shortly.
Gau said the team’s visit was the first of its kind and one under the town’s beautification programme.
He said the team would be responsible for designing and landscaping town roads, Manam gas and oil project, cement factory and first river-bridge construction in the Raicoast district.
“The K10 million funding for the first river-bridge in Raicoast will enable the people to gain access to basic goods and services into the area,” he said.
Gau said apart from the groundwork being carried out, training would be conducted with the Department of Works and private engineers invited to attend.
“Imparting of knowledge and skills to our young engineers will bring positive developments to the engineering industry,” he said.
Other projects to be carried out by the team include storm water drainage system, geometric curves and upgrading of the two-lane road at the main town junction into four lanes.
The firm has been in the construction business for the past 37 years and operates in 65 countries.
