THE Capital Rugby Union (CRU) kicked off its pre-season 15s on Saturday with eight clubs playing their matches at Bava Park.
Saturday’s rainy conditions in Port Moresby did not deter clubs from assembling at Bava Park for matches with the junior and men’s grades playing their matches.
A solid Moni Plus Nova side, led by PNG international Emmanuel Guise, secured a comfortable 24-7 win over the LCR Juggernauts in a thrilling encounter.
Despite bowing out early in the finals last season, Nova showed signs of promise while an improved effort from the Juggernauts saw a more competitive second half.
CRU competition manager Paul Joseph said the pre-season was important for clubs to see their numbers and organise sides for their respective divisions.
“The matches will see all divisions participating except for the A grade and premier division, which will field combined sides,” he said.
“Next weekend gives an opportunity for all clubs to try out their players, player combinations and see where they are at before commencing the season.”
Meanwhile, Joseph has reminded all clubs to register their teams for the upcoming Sports Tok Easter Sevens which kicks off in April.
