CAPITAL Rugby Union (CRU) has praised Harlequins and Valley Hunters for complying with their suspensions which saw their matches being forfeited in rounds four and five.
Union president Kori Chan said on Tuesday that Harlequins and Hunters’ A-grade side would return this weekend in the round-six fixtures which would see the draw returning to normal.
“CRU would like to thank both clubs for dealing with this situation and incident in an appropriate and responsible manner,” he said.
“Although it was unfortunate, the way we have managed to respond to this matter will put our clubs, competition and game in a better position in the future.
“Let us all remain vigilant in ensuring that our culture at CRU is what defines who we are and how we play the game.
“Practising our core rugby values of discipline, respect, enjoyment and humility must be engrained in our clubs, players and spectators. This weekend, we resume our normal programme with all teams competing.”
In round three, the two clubs were involved in a brawl which also involved their supporters.
Chan said the safety and welfare of players were paramount.
“It is important that we create and build a culture in the CRU that is inclusive, safe and supportive, and encourages growth and aspiration,” he said.
“This incident was a reminder that the CRU culture is a sum of the cultures at all our clubs.
“As such, changing mindsets to foster a strong and positive culture is a shared responsibility between the CRU and its clubs.”
