BUTTERFLIES are inviting interested female players for the Port Moresby Rugby Football League’s pre-season nines tournament which kicks off at the National Football Stadium tomorrow.
A-grade coach Michael Boeo told The National on Tuesday that the women’s side were short of players.
“We are calling on women who play rugby league to come and join our team,” he said.
“If there are women out there who can play, but don’t have any team yet then we would be happy to have you.
“We only have a few players, but it is not enough to make up a full squad for the nines tournament.
“Not only for the nines, but most importantly, we need more than 20 players for the new season.
“We are short because some players have moved to other teams while some have other commitments, so we can’t retain the bulk of the players.
“Butterflies are a great club.
“We maintain discipline and develop players.
“We want our players to perform to the best of their abilities. “It would be great to have girls who wish to learn more about rugby league and develop their skills at a great club like Butterflies.”
Meanwhile, Boeo said his A-grade side had been training since the start of the month.
He said his men would use the nines tournament to fine-tune their combinations for the new season.
