KOIBUGA and Tarangau will clash for the Under-16 boys’ title of the Prima Smallgoods-sponsored Western Highlands schools rugby league competition tomorrow, according to an official.
Competition chairman James Meninga said the grand finals were brought forward from Sunday due to the kick-off of the new Digicel Cup season.
He said Koibuga would meet Kolge Namba for the U14 boys’ title while Tiki Memorial would face Kolge Namba for the U18 girls’ crown.
“We hope that this competition has made a positive impact on the development of rugby league,” he said. “The committee is working to ensure that season ends peacefully with the presentation of prizes.”
Meninga warned the public to refrain from causing trouble.
“These are just students competing against each other,” he said.
“As parents, guardians and family members, let’s play our part in ensuring a trouble-free day.”
Meanwhile, Wings Distributors managing director Wilson Wingti gave K5,000 to the competition during last weekend’s semifinals.
He thanked Prima Smallgoods for helping the province develop young talents.
Wingti said sport was a platform for creating positivity among communities.
He said it promoted discipline and healthy living which were crucial to education and longevity.
“You need to take this opportunity as a privilege to gain exposure,” he said.
Wingti said his support was part of helping address law and order issues by keeping youngsters occupied through rugby league.
