BRINGING tourists to East New Britain creates an opportunity for locals to benefit from the tourism, a cruise ship captain says.
Captain of the cruise ship Pacific Encounter Darius Balana arrived at Rabaul port in East New Britain with more than 4,000 tourists on Sunday.
During a welcome ceremony at the port, Balana said it was an opportunity for the people of ENB to venture into tourism businesses.
He explained that of the 4,000 people on board, 1,087 were crew members. Most of the tourists were from Australia.
“Rabaul is a historical place and we are bringing in these tourists to visit these places and at the same time they are bringing in tourism business to your province. Local people will be benefiting from this visit,” Balana said.
Acting chief executive officer of the ENB Tourism Authority (ENBTA) Kania Tubal welcomed the cruise ship to Rabaul.
“We are thrilled to have the Pacific Encounter return to our shores, and we are grateful for the opportunity to showcase all that our beautiful province has to offer,” he said.
