CRUSADERS recorded their second win of the season in the Capital Rugby Union (CRU) premier division after beating Royals 22-17 in round four at Bava Park on Sunday.
But player-coach Frank Gabi Jr was disappointed with his side’s performance despite the win.
He told The National after the game that his men lacked consistency and commitment.
“Our performance in the first half was really poor,” Gabi said.
“That is why we were trailing by 14 points. We showed that we didn’t want it more than Royals.
“They were dominating us.
“Our players were not contesting for possession in every play which was frustrating.
“But it was a relief to turn things around in the second half and get back into the game.
“We needed someone to talk to the side and lead them on the field.
“I was vocal all match, trying to lift the team. They finished the game well.”
Royals scored three unanswered tries in the first half and kicked one successful conversion as they led 17-3 at half-time.
But Royals failed to maintain their dominance in the game as Crusaders fought back in the second half with three unanswered tries and kicked two conversions.
Crusaders’ pack were too strong in the second half which made it easy for their backline to score.
Gabi warned his side to improve in their next match.
“We have to get the little things right,” he said. “Players need to attend training to improve in areas like ball security and kicking.”
