Curfew hours cut back

CURFEW hours daily have been cut back to five hours – midnight to 5am – with police to maintain its enforcement, an official says.
National Pandemic Response Controller David Manning said the previous 10pm to 5 am curfew hours had to be cut back to restore some normalcy in people’s lives.
“While many have noted that police have not strictly been regulating the curfew hours, I must warn that police are on the alert and observing the movement of people,” he said.
“(Police) will swiftly move to implement measures if seen to be seriously compromised.
“We are aware that this is a health and medical situation and as such our actions will be in accordance with our response plan. But the public must not think they can roam around freely and think there is no curfew.
“We want the people to live a life as normal as possible but adhere to the protocols laid down by the Health Department.”
He also said licensed liquor outlets would be allowed to open from Monday to Friday.
Domestic travel rules remain, including that no roadblocks are to be set up except those directed by Manning. Meanwhile, East Sepik recorded three Covid-19 cases while the National Capital District had six cases as of Saturday taking the national total to 488.
All East Sepik cases were detected in Wewak.
The six in Port Moresby work in companies including a shopping mall and hotel.
Manning warned city residents not to let down their gourds while moving around.

  • It doesn’t make sense to impose curfew in the night when it is during the day when many people move around. my question is, is curfew necessary in the very late hours when there is very minimal number of people moving?? does it really serve a purpose?

  • How about banning pokies, night clubs & horse racing permanently as the COVID-19 COVID-19 PANDEMIC is here to stay with us & these would be high risk places. Curfew at night doesn’t make any sense at all.

  • I can’t understand what is it that they trying to achieve by implementing curfew in the night. Please inap lo lonlon nau. We’re trying talking contagious health issue here, which is 99% unlikely to be transmitted at night when there are only less people out there. Wasting so much resources in dump ideas.

  • how much are they spending on running this so called curfew, nogut olgeta covid19 funds pinis lo curfew tasol
