Customs at the border

Letters

I AM concerned about how our Custom officers are charging ordinary Papua New Guineans at the PNG-Indonesian border.
I visited the Batas market on Tuesday, Aug 21, and bought clothes for my kids worth K243. I was charged K90 by the Custom officers without any receipt.
How much is collected throughout the day is something that needs to be looked into by the PNG Customs management.
Customs officers also charge K1 a person/citizen for entry into Batas market while the Indonesian citizens come to our PNG side of the border free of charge. This does not make sense.
Can PNG Customs explain how they decided on the K90 Customs fee for clothes worth K243?
Border officers should be fair, transparent and honest.
