THE Kimbe Cutters have been given individual programmes to train from home while waiting for the Government to ease nationwide restrictions over the Covid-19 pandemic.
Cutters coach Jesse Alunga told The National that the programmes were introduced by PNG Rugby Football League coaching director Michael Marum.
“We’ve been going through training programmes for players and we are going around delivering the programmes to them,” he said.
“We have asked them to follow the schedules in the programme and train from home.
“With the restrictions on the state of emergency, we have been instructed not to gather in groups or train together.
“So we’re just making sure all the players have a copy of the programme and are following it.
“We want to improve the players’ fitness levels and prepare them before we are allowed to train as a team.
“We have 19 players in the province right now who are part of this year’s squad and about six from outside.
“If the season is a shortened one, then we might have a smaller squad for the season but that’s something that our board will decide on later.”
Alunga said the programme included training activities such basic conditioning and road runs while practising basic hygiene and social distancing.
Meanwhile, organisers of the Digicel Cup have set July 5 as a tentative kick-off date which is subject to orders from the state of emergency controller and the Government.
