Czuba not happy UPNG rejecting students on Tesas

Department of Higher Education Research Science and Technology Secretary Fr Jan Czuba says it is wrong for the University of PNG to reject students on the Tertiary Education Students Assistant Scheme (Tesas).
“The students, who have been selected online and have received tickets from us – they will be enrolled. There is no question about it,” Fr Czuba said.
His comment follows complaints by some students who did not find their names on the university student list.
Czuba said the online system was designed for PNG and would not go over the quota entered into the system.
“The list provided by the internet is the right list, the list cannot be provided by UPNG. It’s illegal,” he said.
“The university has no right to reject students who have met the requirement of the university. The university itself provided us the requirements.
“We will not accept any interference in the system unless the university can provide reasons and justification for such issue and students we selected get Tesas scholarships and tickets.
“Students who are not selected within our system will not be selected by us.
“The selection done online was done according to merit and if UPNG wants to reject the selection, which is done in a transparent way, UPNG has to provide justification.”
Czuba said the quota and criteria were provided by respective colleges and universities which were entered into the system that did the selection.
“The software was not taken from the shelf, the software was developed from us, Papua New Guinea,” Czuba said.
