Czuba: Over 90 per cent of grade 12s applied online

NINETY-ONE per cent of the grade 12 students that sat for their final examinations last month accessed the online portal and applied for tertiary institutions, a senior department official says.
Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (DHERST) Fr Jan Czuba told The National that 28,154 of the 30,806 grade 12 students who sat for exams applied while more than 2,600 students did not.
The week-long grace period for students to review and alter their application choices will be from Dec 14-18.
“Students’ preliminary applications close on Dec 6 at 11.59pm where applications are restricted afterwards to allow selectors to do the final editing of requirements, ranking and dates,” Fr Czuba said.
“On Dec 7-10, the grade 12 final results will be submitted to DHERST from the Education Department’s measurement service division where the results will be imported and made available for selection.”
Fr Czuba said when the grace period ended on Dec 18, the selectors’ access would be enabled to set local preferences from Dec 19-21.
The selection results for tertiary institutions will be launched on Dec 22 where individual students can view their results on their national online application system accounts.
“By Jan 8, 2021, the full listing of the selection results will be published on the DHERST website as well as the new in-take (school leavers) Tesas list.”
