Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae yesterday congratulated High Commissioner to the United Kingdom Winnie Kiap on being named this year’s top diplomat.
She was nominated by her peers for outstanding service promoting the interests of both the UK and Papua New Guinea, and the role she plays in other organisations based in London.
“Papua New Guinea is indeed proud of your achievement, having won the 2018 diplomat-of-the-year award,” Sir Bob said. “Your achievement is well noted and with a very distinguished career behind you, this award is well deserved.
“You are a shining example to fellow diplomats that no matter where they serve, they too can aim to achieve great outcomes in the Foreign Service and make our country proud. Our womenfolk have a role model that they can look up to and emulate to be courageous and strong, and serve our nation with honor and pride.”
Sir Bob said his wife Lady Hannah joined him in extending “our warm congratulations on a well-deserved award, and to acknowledge your outstanding and distinguished service to our nation, and in promoting relations between PNG and the United Kingdom and the various countries that you are accredited to”.
Kiap is PNG’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Cyprus, Egypt, Israel, South Africa and Zimbabwe.
