Rotary Club of Port Moresby has given K25,000 to the Red Cross to support its earthquake relief work.
Club president Adam Hughes said PNG Red Cross had already done a great job and the money would further help the organisation with logistics and provision of relief supplies.
Red Cross operations and business development manager Miriam Kamaso said support funds from Rotary would help them reach out to the “most-vulnerable people who were devastated by
the earthquake up in the highlands”.
‘’As a national society, we have struggled to reach out to the people,” she said, adding that help from Rotary, Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica), PNG Association and International Red Cross Federation had been received.
Kamaso said Red Cross had reached out to 244 households by providing kitchen utensils, mosquito nets, hygiene packs and water containers.
She said Red Cross had focused on remote Benaria in Hela but couldn’t go to Hawa and Homa because of travel diffi-culties.
Meanwhile, today is International Red Cross Day.
