THE inaugural Dadi Toka Pepsi Nines rugby league tournament has been postponed to next year with organisers citing an increase in the number of Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases in Port Moresby over the past two months.
The five-day tournament, which was scheduled to kick off last Tuesday, was deferred to January.
“Due to the Covid-19 surge in the nation’s capital and parts of the country, the Dadi Toka Pepsi Nines has been postponed to Jan 11-15,” the organisers said in a statement last week.
“We look forward to seeing teams in the New Year and apologise for any inconvenience caused.
“Teams participating in the tournament now have more time to prepare.”
The majority of competitions and tournaments within Port Moresby have been put on hold with the National Control Centre introducing measures on sports and public gatherings.
The centre, through the Niupela Pasin team, and the Papua New Guinea Sports Foundation have started processing applications from competitions.
The outcome of the applications will be made known new measures are released.
