THE water level at the Sirinumu Dam catchment area at Sogeri in Port Moresby has risen to the 62 per cent full in the past two days – thanks to the heavy rain.
PNG Power acting executive general manager transmission and distribution Simon Kaupa told The National yesterday that the water level jumped from the 55 per cent mark to the 62 per cent.
It means the dam now holds about 209 million cubic metres of water.
It can hold up to 340 million cubic meters of water.
He said they were expecting a further rise in level if it continued to rain.
PNG Power Limited acting managing director Carolyn Blacklock said workers were working hard to clear the debris reaching the Rouna power station.
She said the continuing rain and strong wind in Port Moresby and other centres required technical officers to be on standby to restore any disrupted supply.
Blacklock said things were now returning to normal.
The breakdowns still being fixed in the National Capital District are at Tatana village, University, Bomana One feeder, Kanudi Three feeder and Boroko feeder 8 from Tubuseria to Hula road and Kwikila.
“PNG power is doing its best to ensure electricity supply is restored as fast as possible to its customers.”
