THE National Fisheries Authority (NFA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the PNG Data Corporation Ltd for the digital transformation of the authority.
NFA managing director Justin Ilakini said the department wanted to fulfil the Government’s information communication modernisation plan and directives issued through the digital government transformation policy and legislation.
“It is a very big step for us in terms of modernising the organisation,” he said.
“We thought that by digitising our work in terms of interfacing the kind of systems that we have in place, as well as fast-track our modernisation processes and help the department stay in par with the new government ICT policy, which requires all the government’s agencies to become paperless, and improve efficiency of work and delivery of services to our people.”
Ilakini said the NFA planned to go paperless with its internal workflow processes through to digitising external fisheries activities.
DataCo chief executive officer Paul Komboi said they would provide capacity building to the NFA staff members to operate the systems.
“DataCo is happy to partner with NFA, to digitalise their operations,” he said.
“Dataco can deliver and that has been our testament in the previous projects we have had with the other government’s agencies.”
