MATHEW David netted four goals to help hosts Vitiaz United beat Tusbab Stallions 6-3 in round 13 of the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League in Port Moresby on Saturday.
The forward headed home his first goal of the match via a cross by forward Johnathan Allan 10 minutes in at Papua New Guinea Football Stadium.
But the Madang side were quick to equalise with Vitiaz goalkeeper Russell Chris deflecting the ball into his own net from a Ricky Wadunah corner kick.
Allan put Vitiaz in front via a free kick after the Stallions were ruled to have handled the ball.
David scored his second goal to give the hosts a 3-1 halftime lead.
He netted his third goal in the opening minutes of the second half but the Stallions pulled themselves back into the contest when Michael Saun scored via a free kick.
Vitiaz skipper Eliud Fugre breached the Stallions defence to find his teammate Yagi Yasasa for their fifth goal before David netted his fourth to see out the win.
A brave effort from the Stallions midfield saw forward Jason Wadunah grab a consolation goal.
Vitiaz manager Rogena Strach commended her players’ efforts and noted a strong performance from David, who has now scored seven goals over the past two rounds.
“He has been great for the team,” she said of the former Lae City forward.
“He’s doing well and we’re proud of him.
“He is combining well with our midfielders.
“We came prepared and we knew it wasn’t going to an easy game.”
