Vipers climb up ladder

THE Port Moresby Vipers moved into the top-four with a 17-10 win over the Central Dabaris in the Digicel Cup round seven fixture at the Sir John Guise Stadium yesterday.
Tries to Enoch Maki, Stargroth Amean and Ben Wemin off the back of a solid defensive effort saw the Vipers dominate throughout the match to claim the win.
Although the Dabaris had enough possession, they could not penetrate the Vipers defence and only managed to score a try through Makara Hura.
The Vipers’ attack was on point with experienced halfback Ase Boas dictating play throughout the match.
Maki and Manu Kame powered the Vipers pack and were hard to handle with their hard running and offloads.
Vipers coach Leonard Tarum said he was pleased with his side’s performance and would look to continue their momentum in the remaining four rounds.
“It is good that we are consistent with our performances,” Tarum said.
“The boys really dominated from the start to finish which was good.
“I’m hoping that continue the momentum towards the business end of the season.”
Dabaris coach Bagelo Solien said his side failed to get off to a good start and allowed the Vipers to dominate.
“We lost the game right from the start,” he said.
“It was a terrible start as we allowed the Vipers to score back-to-back tries in the first 20 minutes which was a big disappointment for us.
“Psychologically, we were defeated early on and we didn’t have the courage to fight back and try to square the game.”
