Deal to give students experience

FINAL-year students from Tuna Bay School of Nursing will now be able to do their rural health attachment in Central.
Academic coordinator Amai Kaife said the school signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Central heath authority to allow its students to be dispatched to health centres in Central for practical experience.
He said the school was established with the Health Department’s endorsement and was part of the private-public partnership to produce competent nurse manpower for the country.
Kaife said the teams from the Health Department, as well as the Department of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology, had visited the school and their recommendations for full accreditation had been taken on by the school’s management.
He said the team that was responsible for final accreditation and registration from the Nursing Council of PNG had also visited the school.
Kaife said the school was now following the process to be registered and its final-year students needed to complete their clinical placements to meet the curriculum requirements.
He said requests had been sent to the Port Moresby General Hospital and the National Capital District health authority to utilise their hospitals and clinics, however, approvals were pending.
