Country needs more nurses, schools, official says

THE country needs more nurses and nursing schools should be recognised and approved so students can be sent to hospitals around the country to serve the people, an official says.
Papua New Guinea Nurses Association president Fredrick Kebai said this during his visit to the Tuna Bay School of Nursing in Port Moresby yesterday.
Tuna Bay School of Nursing is a private institution that was established in 2019 and has yet to be approved by the authorities so students can be employed in the health sector.
Kebai said the association believed that the country needed more nurses to serve in health centres and hospitals across the country and to achieve that, more schools, both State and private, would need to train students.
“In PNG, we are lacking manpower in terms of delivering services throughout PNG,” he said.
“Our population is increasing, but the manpower is very short, and we would like to give full support to Tuna Bay School of Nursing.”
