Death not related to virus: Police

THE bodies of two men found on a foreign logging ship in anchorage off Kupiano, Central, on March 27, are not coronavirus related deaths, says State of Emergency controller and Police commissioner David Manning.
Manning confirmed this upon receiving the preliminary maritime casualty investigation report from the Covid-19 Joint Agencies Task Force investigation team that was dispatched to assess the situation on site.
“Since the deaths occurred on board a foreign vessel in Papua New Guinea waters, it was necessary to establish the circumstances surrounding the deaths to clear public misconception and speculation,” Manning said.
“According to the preliminary report, the two men died as a result of suffocation due to lack of oxygen inside the holding bay of the vessel.”

  • How could two people die at the same time due to lack of oxygen or suffocation??? Was it because they were in a confined room??? Were they trapped inside a container or box??? This is impossible, this information is not true. Authorities should look deep into this. We are every time carrying out light and fail investigations. disappointed

    • This is very serious, the authorities should investigate further and find out the actual cause of death.

  • Why are we still allowing logging ships coming after banning export of round logs? Minister for Forestry and the Government needs to answer.
