EVANGELICAL Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea youths in Jimi district of Jiwaka attended a five-day spiritual camp from Dec 17-22 last year.
The camp was one of the main annual programmes planned in the church’s calendar that aimed to help young and vulnerable church members remained focused in their journey of faith.
It was the 7th annual gathering which was hosted by the Kauil congregation of Tabibuga circuit, Jeremiah Parish.
District youth coordinator Lucas Ju said about 200 youths from Jimi district attended the camp to learn from daily teachings and participated in activities to help them avoid distractions and overcoming challenges in life.
Among the youths were men and women ministries, tambourine ministry, Sunday school ministry, and elder members.
“Youths today are at the crossroads and are presented with a lot of challenges.
“Peer influences and modern technology are having great impact for youths as these affect them spiritually, physically, emotionally and psychologically.
“Youths today need proper guidance and counselling from the senior members and such programmes play a critical role in molding and shaping our future leaders who should be God-fearing.
“ELCPNG has been around for more than 500 years and as it continues to grow, it also faces its equal share of tests and temptations.
“Youths are the future of the church and, as such, we want them to be aware of their gifts and potentials.
“When the Israelites gave up their faith, Joshua and his household remained steadfast.
“We’re in similar seasons and must make tough decisions as far as our faith is concerned,” Ju said.
